Austin's police chief is in the race to be Dallas PD's next top cop. Austin's Catholic Diocese has a new bishop. And Capital Metro provided local media a free rail ride Monday.

>>Two Women Killed In Bus Stop Crash Are Identified

(Austin, TX) -- The two women killed in a crash at an Austin bus stop have been identified. Police report 28-year-old Adriana Morales-Catalan and 52-year-old Maria N. Gaona De Corona were struck by a car Saturday on South First Street near Stassney Lane. Police say the car's driver, 19-year-old Erick Armando Nuncio-Moreno, was speeding and racing another car when the crash occurred. Nuncio-Moreno faces two counts of manslaughter.

>>Austin Police Chief Applies For Dallas PD's Top Cop Job

(Austin, TX) -- Austin's police chief is in the race to be Dallas PD's next top cop. Art Acevedo is reported to among the top six finalists for the open Dallas Police Chief post. Acevedo joined Austin PD in July 2007 following service with the California Highway Patrol. Acevedo says Dallas city officials contacted him and that prompted him to apply for the gig.

>>Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspects

(Austin, TX) -- Austin cops arrested two armed robbery suspects. Officers report 19-year-old Robert Anthony Ponce and Matthew Manuel Topete, also 19, robbed the Shell Station in the 2900 block of Brushy Creek Road on March 2nd. Cops say one man was armed with a handgun, while the other had a shotgun. There were no reports of injury during the crime.

>>Austin Catholic Diocese Has New Bishop

(Austin, TX) -- Austin's Catholic Diocese has a new bishop. Church officials held an Installation Mass Monday for Joe S. Vasquez at St. William Catholic Church in Round Rock. Fifty-two-year-old Vasquez has also served as Bishop in Houston and is said to be be the first Mexican-American to lead the Austin Diocese. The local Diocese serves about a half-million Catholics.

>>Capital Metro Takes Media For Ride

(Austin, TX) -- Capital Metro provided local media a free rail ride Monday. The agency is promoting its upcoming launch for the MetroRail service in the Austin area. Service from Leander to downtown Austin is scheduled to begin Monday, March 22nd. Capital Metro planned to start service about a year ago, but put it off over safety concerns. Passengers can ride the first week for free and then pay three-dollars for one-way service, six-dollars roundtrip, or 70-dollars for a one month pass.
