Authorities say a search was still going Monday for Schantz, a Houston executive, who disappeared in New Orleans last week. Officials say no one has heard from Schantz since he left Razzoo's, a club on Bourbon Street, about 2 a.m. Friday. Police in New Orleans say no activity has been noted on Schantz's cell phone or transactions in his bank accounts since he disappeared and his hotel room looks unscathed. >>More Details Emerge On Bull That Escaped At Rodeo (Houston, TX) -- More information has been released about a bull that broke free, injuring two workers at Sunday's RodeoHouston event at Reliant arena. Officials say Hardball, a two-thousand-pound animal, charged out of a pen about 5:30 p.m. while chuckwagon racers left the stadium floor, scaring the bull as they went by. Rodeo representatives say Hardball managed to loosen a two-inch steel pin that was intended to keep him locked in a special pen reserved for bucking bulls. Officials say workers could not close a second stadium gate because that would have put the quickly moving chuck wagons in danger. Security officers herded Hardball back to the parking lot and wranglers roped him and got him back inside, but not before the bull stepped on a female wrangler's foot and tipped over a male security guard. >>Jobs Being Added, Revenue Increasing, But Texas Still Faces Shortfall (Austin, TX) -- Experts say more jobs are being created and sales tax revenues are increasing though higher-than-estimated Medicaid caseloads will exacerbate a state budget shortfall. The "Houston Chronicle" reports that John Heleman, chief revenue estimator for State Comptroller Susan Combs, says early figures show sales tax collections dropped nearly nine-percent last month compared to February, 2009. Heleman told the paper the dip is smaller than double-digit decreases that hurt Texas for many months and the state also added over 30-thousand jobs in January. However, House Appropriations Committee members Monday said an eleven-billion-dollar budget shortfall is predicted for the next two year budget cycle. >>HISD Considers Other Groups To Compete To Run Alternative Programs (Houston, TX) -- The Houston Independent School District is considering ending its relationship with Community Education Partners and allowing other organizations try to operate an alternative school for students with major discipline issues. HISD has had a contract with CEP, a Nashville-base for-profit business, since 1997 to operate two alternative schools. HISD Superintendent Terry Grier recommended Monday that the district end its ties with CEP because the cost to work with it this school year is 22-million dollars, which Grier says it too expensive. The district trustees Monday did not say whether they agree with Grier but the district is waiting to see the outcome of a study that will measure how effective CEP has been. >>Rain Likely Today, Expected To End Thursday (Houston, TX) -- Keep your umbrellas handy because rain is expected to continue today in Houston. KHOU-TV reports that the showers will likely end by Thursday when the sun comes back. A 70-percent likelihood of rain is predicted during today's morning rush-hour but the chance of rain will decrease a little in the afternoon. Officials predict more thunderstorms and showers on Wednesday.
