As Iraq holds an election, local Iraqis get to take part via a polling place in Irving. Oncor has now given some refunds as it admits to problems related to the new "smart meters." And, looks like the Federal government ran into a "higher power," as a decision against church services is reversed. >>Suspect Dead, Deputy Wounded In Walmart Shootout (Commerce, TX) -- One man is dead and an off-duty deputy is in a hospital after a shootout outside a Walmart in Commerce. Police spokeswoman Marty Cunningham says the man had earlier exchanged fire with their officers, also firing his weapon in Greenville, before that. But it was off-duty Delta County Sheriff's Deputy Paul Robertson -- shopping with his family at the time -- who saw the not yet identified man walk into Walmart brandishing a rifle and pistol, leading to a shootout outside the Walmart. Authorities say Deputy Robertson will survive his wounds. >>Local Iraqis Able To Take Part In Their Country's Election (Irving, TX) -- Close to 16-hundred DFW Iraqis cast votes locally in their country's election, with the final voting -- election day -- taking place Sunday in Iraq. One of nine polling places across the United States was set up at the Crossroads Hotel and Suites in Irving. Voting took place Friday through Sunday with the largest number of voters showing up on the last day. The Iraqi government ran 119 polling centers in 16 different countries. >>Oncor Admits To New Meter-Related Problems, And Gives Some Refunds [[ Pronunciation note: VON ATZIGENS -- ATT-zuh-gens. It's pronounced with a hard g. And ATT is just like the word "at" ]] (Dallas, TX) -- Oncor has now admitted it's facing an issue with its new controversial smart meters. Many customers have been slammed with high bills. Like thousands of north Texans, the Von Atzigens [[ ATT-zuh-gens ]] were socked recently with a high electric bill. Brandy Von Atzigen telling news 8 they fought, won, and got money back. Oncor still insists the meters are fine. However, they do now admit Oncor workers misread seven-thousand old meters when they switched to new ones -- and overcharged customers. >>Audelia Manor Gets To Keep Its Church Service (Dallas, TX) -- The Dallas Housing Authority owns the federally funded building, now reversing a decision to kill weekly church services. Lake Highlands United Methodist has been conducting them in the Audelia Manor Apartments lobby for 14 years. Many worshippers use wheelchairs and scooters and read large-print bibles. Now -- 84-year-old Myrna Hardy -- who spent hours on the phone to save the services -- thanks the Lord, adding she'll never take the services for granted again. Residents Sunday added a hymn verse: "He's got the D.H.A. in His hands".
